Horrible customer service. The ladies who were pushing the carts with the dim sum were talking to each other the whole time even when assisting me when I was trying to get my food. They were talking about one of the workers eye brows, how she shaded it in so nicely and where did she buy her brow pencil. Seriously ladies, we're hungry. we just want our food! stop talking! The only thing that tasted good here was the siu mai. I mean, it was most edible to me. Everything just tasted old..and just ok.

Seems like most of the reviews are for Dim Sum, this review will not be as such. Actually, you probably won't find this particular review very useful at all... unless you're lookin' to book a good ol' fashioned Chinese wedding reception. The kind full of red envelopes, where you might actually turn a profit for celebrating your special day. (Or 2nd, or 3rd, depending on how many times you're remarrying).Okay, even in that respect, this review won't be that useful, unless you want to know what your guests might think of the multi-course Chinese banquet meal. Plus, I still have no idea what my high school friend paid to hold her wedding reception at 888. So let's journey, and enumerate the veritable treasure trove of tastiness:Glazed walnut shrimpShark fin soupStir fried lobsterAbalone and mushroomsPeking duckBBQ duck meat from the Peking duckSteamed fishCrab fried riceWas it the bestest best Chinese food ever? Well, this one may have had one bottle too many of Hennessy, mayhap resulting in an altered palate. But everything was tasty for the most part. All the proteins are rather luxurious, especially considering that it's being served to a party of 200.I could've done without the sharkfin soup though. Frankly, I just don't get the appeal. It tastes like almost nothing. I'd rather have hot and sour soup. The glazed walnut shrimp was pretty damn impressive though. The largest of shrimps I've seen used yet, with a satisfying, supple bite-in. Just enough mayo glazes over the shrimp and crunchy walnuts. And that steamed fish! I could devour that whole fish, all by myself. As cooked fish go, this is probably my favorite style. I've had crusted branzino at Water Grill, and Chilean sea bass at 2-Michelin starred Providence. And while those fish were delicious, I don't love them. I would never order them again. Not like the steamed fish here at 888. Like sushi, sashimi, and fried mackerel, this is one fish dish I can eat everyday. The lobster was chopped and chunky, shell on, as per the style. The waitstaff will be dropping off plenty of wetnaps, I guess alluding to the fact that you may be using your hands to pick out every morsel of lobster. As with the abalone and duck dishes, the lobster was good enough. Not the best I've had ever, but it'll do when you're in the mood for such. And when you've fattened up, stuffed, with your buttons about to burst, the crab fried rice finally arrives. Lots of real crab meat is mixed in. I tend to prefer Thai-style crab fried rice, for it's use of fish sauce. But this kind is mild, subtle, and light. Which you'll most likely end up boxing anyway, because you were totally full, 2 courses ago.As moods go, there were 4 weddings going on concurrently that night! Service was usable, but you know, since when does a person expect "good" service from a Chinese restaurant? You'll get that refill of oolong, or a that fresh set of chopsticks... um.... eventually.Overall, as an orthodox Chinese seafood restaurant, this was a very satisfying meal. Cheers, and congrats to my friends~

DIM SUM REVIEWIt used to be a good establishment but it has totally gone downhill.Came recently for dim sum and it was probably the worst I have had in a while. The food all tasted like it was reheated several times. The employees also didn't pay attention to us when we were asking what they were serving in the dim sum carts. Instead the employees were conversing amongst themselves near our tables. The ladies also weren't very informed about the products they carried. I asked one if they had pineapple custard buns and they said yes. I got so excited, but when I finally tried it, it was just a regular pineapple bun. I was really disappointed since that's pretty much my favorite sweet bun. Overall I would NOT recommend coming to 888 Seafood Restaurant for dim sum. For the banquet food, it may be better since that's the type of venue it is anyway. Save your money and go somewhere else!

This is a great Dim Sum (Yum Cha) House in the San Gabriel Valley... Rosemead. Whether comparing to Monterey Park, Chinatown or any other area, it's a solid place to go eat, and is spacious and clean (for those Asians entertaining any Gwei Lo's who have trepidations)The Siew Yuk (Roast Pork) is amazingly good, it's lean portions, the good cuts, and the skin is crispy and tasty. I'd order this every time, all the time, and may even be so bold to go rogue on the table etiquette and order one just for myself! I did take photos of it and posted it on their Yelp page to to show you how delicious it is and the portion size. The rest of the food here is on par with what I have come to expect from the Dim Sum experience, and they have all of the typical staple items. They do the cart style, random food wheeling by the tables, and there's nice room between tables too.The carts come with good frequency, and if you don't see anything you like or they run out, the wait-staff will special order anything you want and bring it to your table, so don't settle for anything if you're looking for something and are hungry, ask and you shall receive. The parking lot may get full, as it shares the same location as other stores with customers competing for parking spaces. There's parallel parking on the streets, but most are 2 hr parking (Mon-Sat, not including Sun), so be mindful of that. The Yum Cha experience takes 45mins to an hour, unless you're chatty. The price per person always seems to go down with the more people you add. I'd estimate, you can expect about $15-20 per person to get satisfied with diversity. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality, quantity and pricing.I think 3 people is the minimum anyone should go with, and maybe even 4, but most dishes come with 3 or 4 pieces, so if you come with 4 - 5 + people, you may have to order more of the same stuff to have enough for everyone to have at least one of to try.We went at about 11am on a Saturday and it was not crowded, and no wait, so s with most of the Dim Sum houses, you should arrive early to get the parking and the table and the first pickin's of the food, then you can be out by 12pm noon and have the rest of the say to do other things.

888 is lame. The name itself...c'mon what is the meaning of this? Because 8 is a lucky number so 888 is triple lucky? Why not 88888 or 8888888888. Someone explain to me please. We sat down. Food was served slowly but no tea, no sauce, NO UTENSILS for 15 minutes after the food was just sitting there. Dim sum is not finger food but after that long, it became finger food. I tried asking the cart ladies for chopsticks. Half of them could not understand the word chopsticks...i thought signing the word was rude but it eventually got to that point. One lady handed over her tongs in confusion but I am not about to eat dim sum with tongs.... -.-" Apparently, only waiters could give out utensils and it was not a responsibility given to these ladies. We finished half the food before we got any condiments and tea. The waiter finally acknowledged us but continued to set the table instead of coming over.Dim sum was nothing special. We just had my parents' 40th anniversary luncheon today with 30 guests. From the onset of planning the event, the owner/manager John(?) was great to work with. We had a private room in the back of the restaurant, away from the noisy dim sum weekend crowd, which was beautifully decorated and really clean. I'm often put-off by the "sticky" chinese restaurant feeling, but 888 was NOTHING like that. There was also a separate restroom facility in the back by our room which made it very convenient for our guests. The food was delicious and exceeded our expectations. My parents and guests were all very pleased with the set menu. This says a lot considering these are older asians who probably have eaten at every chinese restaurant in the SGV. Two of our guests were also former chinese restaurant owners in the SGV and both also had very complimentary things to say about the dishes. The cold plate, which is usually a "meh" kinda dish for me, was a nice surprise. In addition, their crab was fresh and tasty, the shark fin soup was filled with goodies, and their duck dish had endless compliments by our guests. In addition to the food, this was the FIRST-TIME-EVER that the service we experienced at a chinese restaurant was exceptional. There was never more than 5 seconds that passed before someone came by to refill the tea pot. Their servers were constantly attentive and never "threw" your dish on the table or sloshed the soup around on the lazy susan. They also allowed us to bring in our own toasting champagne. They were extremely polite that I almost forgot I was at a chinese restaurant!Overall, my family was so pleased and my parents had a wonderful time and my parents already asked to have their 50th anniversary celebration there!

Womp. Major womp.I really don't understand why this place has 3.5 stars on Yelp. Maybe I need to give it another try and today was just a fluke, but I was completely underwhelmed by this SGV dim sum staple.I came today for some Veteran's Day dim sum shortly after noon. The wait for our party of three was not bad - only about ten minutes, and the restaurant was pretty full. The food: Shrimp dumpling skin was too thick and fell apart too easily. Siu mai was ok. Haam sui gok (fried glutinous rice ball) was over-fried. Stuffed eggplant met expectations. Rice crepes were passable but again too thick. Egg tarts were too small and nothing special. Chicken feet was not cooked long enough because the skin did not easily fall off the bone. Turnip cake was decent, as were the pineapple custard buns. The worst: I called beforehand and asked if they had the fried taro balls because one of my dining companions really likes them. They answered affirmatively. When we sat down, I asked if they had them and was told they'd be out later. About an hour into the meal, after asking again, I was told they had sold out. Super annoyed - how do you run out of something by 12:15 on a weekday? I was also annoyed because siu mai took forever to come out. I kept asking the cart ladies where they were, and all of them replied it was not their cart. When I asked whose cart it was, they would point to someone else (who also indicated it wasn't their cart). Total deflection of responsibility.Bottom line: I know you can get better dim sum at better prices in SGV. 888 needs to step up its game. The cart ladies can't be bothered to help, the dim sum is unrefined, and the prices aren't that cheap relatively speaking.

I ordered the run of the mill standard items and found them to satisfy my dim sum craving. If you're looking for a quick fix, 888 is a safe choice. We got here on a Saturday morning (11:30 AM) and were seated right away. That's not really an easy thing to do in the San Gabriel valley. The first stop on my wonderful tour of the great city of Rosemead. I really reconnected with my Asian side during my brunch here. I learned some new Cantonese words and tried some delicious dim sum. The atmosphere was lively with a wide range of customers, from elderly parties of one to large families. My tour guide and myself were seated immediately and the carts swarmed us. We got hargow and shumai to start. Hargow is my favorite but it took a while to get seconds. The bbq pork buns were fluffy delightful and so were the egg tarts. I think we looked very American so the service we received was a little bit hindered. A few of the servers enjoyed us but others did not want anything to do with us. I learned how to say no thanks in Cantonese, "meeeeeYeww" I tried practicing as the carts rolled around, but I got some dirty looks so I may have pronounced it incorrectly, I blame my tour guide. The service was slow especially when it came to getting seconds for my hargow. We waited and waited for the hargow cart for a good 45 mins. At one point a cart lady tricked us and gave us wannabe hargow, which are the shrimp rice balls, don't get those!!! They are unacceptable. But then we spotted her, cart lady #483, we called her over and she gave us the hallowed hargow!!!Overall, it was a good time, great tasting dim sum, average service, yummy hargow, and delicious jasmine tea. It was a little pricey at 22 dollars for two people, but we definitely got our fill of goodies. I'll work on my canto for next time so I don't get judged as hard by the workers.

Had to ask several times for drinks and napkins. No refills. The waiter or host who was the only English speaking person on staff it seemed, never to be found when we needed something. Came here for a wedding banquet, and though the interior was a world away from the somewhat grungy-looking exterior, the food was noticeably subpar for the SGV. Way too much sugar in everything. It made the awkward speeches, ear-splitting karaoke and sea of red faces that much harder to endure.Looks like there are a lot of good reviews RE: the dim sum. I never come on the weekends, way too crowded. If you can try to go M-F, since the economy tanked the only time they're busy during the week is during Chinese New Year.If you're not Chinese you may feel like you're being treated like a second class citizen, so just wave down the older man in the black jacket and he'll make sure you're treated properly. If you're new to Dim Sum then you may want to find a friend who is fluent with the cuisine or you may miss out on some of the best food you'll ever taste.

My favorite spot for Dim Sum in the morning. They quality of the Dim Sum here is unbeatable! Not only is it made every morning and steaming hot, each piece of siu mai and har gow is way bigger than competitor's. I always loved Dim Sum and the concept of it. Ladies walking around, pushing carts, tell you what they have under the cover, and you just pick away! Don't be intimidated by going to Dim Sum because you don't know the Chinese pronunciation of the items. Although most of the workers don't know the English name for it, they will definitely try and help you out.The venue is huge, lots of tables and accommodating for big groups. However, don't let that fool you on weekend mornings as you'll find yourself waiting for a good hour and a half for some Dim Sum. By the time you get seated, it'll be lunch instead of breakfast/brunch. On top of that, parking isn't the best. Not only are each parking spot compact, there is also a limited number of parking too.Do keep in mind a few things:- There's a $1 per person charge for tea.- They don't have Ja Leurng (Chinese Doughnuts wrapped for rice rolls).- Not all Dim Sum items are priced the same. The bill adds up!- They calculate your bill right in front of you with mental math. Most of the time, it's correct. But, there was a time when it was wrong. Do check as you should any bill.- If you come later in the day, they will run out of items. That's how all Dim Sum places work. They serve a different menu afterwards so the kitchen stops making Dim Sum in the afternoon.Waiting for the morning Tritia T. and I go Dim Sum-ing!

Dim sum at 10:32AM on a Saturday morning, I think YES! Hong Kong-style push cart ladies, I think double YES YES!!888 Seafood Restaurant is a pretty spacious place, you don't feel claustrophobic at all. The restaurant was about 50% empty when I was seated, and around 11AM was when the place started to fill up.The cart ladies are pretty aggressive here in asking you to get this or that. But, you're still the customer, so don't feel threatened or intimidated in turning them down! Also, you have to speak up a bit, it will get loud. (Warning: do NOT come here if you're recovering from a hangover, you'll feel worse!)Anyway, I really only have to say one thing; it's not really dim sum without those push carts, there's a history behind those, and it's tradition. Push carts are freakin' awesome! So, you have your normal dim sum fare, shrimp dumplings, bbq pork buns (steamed or baked), flaky egg tarts, shu mai, pork spareribs, chicken feet, beef tripe, other desserts, porridge, etc.Everything was pretty tasty, what you'd expect from busy, well-known dim sum places. But, I didn't really like the har gow (shrimp dumplings) becuase they had scallops in them, that's not normal. The shu mai also wasn't the best, but still okay; and the chicken feet was okay too, the color and flavor was a bit diluted and there's kidney beans under the chicken feet, weird. What was more awesome, was the Lo Bak Gow (Turnip Cake) cart. This cart is a rare find these days, most dim sum places have outed this and resorted to pan-frying the turnip cakes in the kitchen and bringing them out on another cart. With this cart, you can watch the lady freshly pan-fry these cakes for you so they're super duper hot when they reach your table. So, my dim sum experience was above average and seeing that Turnip Cake cart, totally made my day lol. If you're in the area early in the day, check this place out. It's Tritia T. approved! Happy eatings!!Note: make sure you check your bill, they mixed up our bill ($30 vs. $50) with another table...

I've been coming here for years now and I still love this place. Love the fact that they still push the carts around so I can peek inside and see what I want. The food is always consistent. Not to mention whatever I want is always in stock whether I show up towards the beginning of dim sum or towards the end. Service is like any other dim sum restaurant, you got to tell them everything you want right when you sit down: extra hot sauce, water/soda, etc. Else who knows when you'll be able to catch another waiter again. (That is of course when it's time to pay. Then they appear out of thin air. Haha) The wait time is decent. On the weekday you just walk in. On the weekend expect maybe a 15min wait (?), depending on the size of your party.TIP: If possible, come during the weekday. On the weekend, the parking lot is a total nightmare.

The shu mai is one of the stars of this establishment as the blend of meat and shrimp wrapped in the egg skin is highly sought after. Then there are some extra items that i personally like and think they do just right here such as- Pan fried TARO cakes- BBQ pork buns both fried and steamed- BBQ pork steamed paper rolls- Egg tarts- PINEAPPLE BUNSOh man, i just discovered the pineapple buns after eating here for oh so long.a sweet confectionery treat. crunchy and flaky on the top, fluffy and filled with both custard and pineapple on the inside, it would be a sin not to eat this before leaving. All in all, a famous staple for dimsum with some of the best food items in the area with reasonable prices.

I must've hit them during a rough spot previously. The har gow skins are nice and almost thin enough with the right number of folds, they TASTE very good, the shu mai is good, the tripe that I complained about earlier is now much better.Presentation on some things (e.g. tripe) is still lacking, the har cheung fun still seems a little too thick... but the rest of the food here is generally very, very good. It's less a case of what do they do wrong, but how right do they do the things they do right. This place gets very little wrong, and does a pretty good job at what they do right. For the money, 888 Seafood is hard to beat. Probably why we keep coming back. That and the entertainment. Last visit they called our number, we went to the back... and our table had no chairs around it. WTF? HAHAHA uuhhhhh...

I can't believe I haven't written a review of this place yet! This has been my favorite dim sum house for about 5 years, now. 888 Seafood Restaurant is huge, wait times can be long on holidays, prices are cheap, and the food is consistently good.See, that's what I value in a dim sum house: consistency. I've been to Elite, and I've been to Sea Harbour. Both of those have some excellent items on their menus, but portions are smaller, prices are higher, and overall at the end of a meal, I usually end up driving to 888 anyway to pick-up some pineapple buns to-go.I have had both great and awful shumai at Elite. I have only had pretty good shumai at 888. 888 has a huge variety, and I am always seeing something new (new to me?) whenever I go. In other words, at 888 I can make new friends and revisit old ones. Low prices are conducive for trying new things, too!Highlights: Pineapple buns are divine. Crystal shrimp are the epitome of deep-fried goodness. Shrimp in mushroom caps with broth are very good, as are the steamed vegetable wraps and the jellyfish. There's also a mushroom with rice flour dumplings hot pot that is pretty damn good, too.Notes: When you're seated, you will be asked which kind of hot tea you'd like for the table. Also, request ice water and/or soy sauce at this time. Sometimes it's tough getting the attention of one of the waiters after being seated, especially when you're being swarmed by carts (and you will be swarmed).

This place has a lot of things I don't really see at many other dim-sum places... such as taro cake fried in egg and lobster dumplings. I would say, though, that the pieces in their portions are a little smaller than I'm used to, but the prices are decent... and sometimes you want a smaller portion, like with egg tarts. The staff generally speaks a little English, which is helpful. Some of them speak Mandarin as well. One of them did tell me in Cantonese that "Westerners would like this dish." This was pretty hilarious to us at the table, including my "Westerner" fiancé.I would definitely come back here because it's clean and pretty efficient. The only crappy part is the parking, which can get really busy with the other restaurants in the plaza, and the spaces themselves aren't roomy.

A friend took me here for a birthday dim sum on a sunday morning. It wasn't too crowded around 11pm, and we got seats right away. The things that stood out to me most here were:- Chicken Feet: Very flavorful- The Big thick noodles w shrimp with soy sauce: One of the best i've ever triedI tried a few other main dim sum dishes like the shu mai and hac cao, but those weren't so good to me and was a bit dry. The mini egg tarts were okay and not that great as everyone says they were. Service was good. The decors of this place was nice especially the chandeliers. I loved the theme color of this restaurant, it made it look very elegant. I think i would actually like to try other dim sum restaurants before coming back here.

Traditional cart style dim sum.I like also that they have plenty of servers bringing around plates of dim sum on trays... just a few plates so you know that what's being offered is hot and fresh. The place is huge so there's not much of a wait even when the dining room is packed. Showed up today at 1230 (Saturday), waited maybe 5 minutes. Every table was full, part of the restaurant was sectioned off for a family event.Everything was hot and fresh and served fast. All the standards are done very well:shu maihar gowgai lan cooked on the cartsteamed chicken ginger baobaked cha sui baocha sui sou (BBQ pork in the flaky pastry triangle)Jiu cai bau (steamed then pan fried dumplings with chive and pork)steamed fish dumpling with pea on topblack mushroom stuffed with steamed fish & shrimptofu stuffed with shrimpmango puddingSkip the xlb dumplings... they are better elsewhere like at Mei Long Village.Ask for chrysanthemum tea for something different (and no caffeine).I've been coming here for years... it's still going strong and steady.

I usually go to eat dim sum over in Chinatown, but I have to say if you really want some good stuff, head on down to Valley Blvd!!888 is very clean and the minute you sit down, they come to you right away and the hard decisions begin. Unfortunately, everything looked so good so by the time I was full, I missed the BBQ pork, duck, and other tasteful delicacies. Damn.I am convinced that they have at least 5 different types of shumai that are all sinfully delicious. Their pork and egg porridge/congee was really good too; not too watery or bland, but just right. My weakness was their sweet/salty pork bun. They look a little like empanadas, and they're UH-MAZING. My personal favorite is always the sesame bun for dessert, and I have to say both the red bean and yellow bean were quite good, especially when they're fresh and piping hot!But alas, there are a couple downers. Their fried rice with sausage and mushroom wasn't so great. It was a little chewy, which was rather bothersome. I'm not one for chicken feet, but my mom (Philippine chicken feet aficionado) said that she's had way better. It was most likely true, because the feet were boiled, had no color (obviously), and looked bland.Among my mom, brother, and I, we ordered about 6 A priced dishes and 5 B priced dishes, a Sprite and it was $38.60. Now to me, that's kind of very pricey...but if you want some genuinely good dim sum in a nice ambiance, and a sizable amount of that good food, then by all means, go to 888 and it'll be great! (cheesy)

So, I'm half Chinese, but to other Chinese people, I don't look it. Why do I start my review this way? Well.... if you are Chinese AND LOOK like you are, you get treated pretty well. Not to say we were mistreated, but considering 95% of the clientele and 100% of the employees are Chinese, the non Chinese looking don't get the friendlier service. (i.e., us). We asked for ha gow and was told, "laytuh" and we asked another server who told us "not now" as they walked away. One of the servers commented on my daughter's eyes, I told her that she was Chinese and woah... we were treated like some sort of royalty. We were there for dim sum on a busy Sunday afternoon. The dim sum was excellent, fresh and I would go there again just for the selection, and taste despite my feelings of being discriminated.
